In the early morning, you will be picked up at your Panama City hotel to take you to the Cartí dock, it is a three-hour trip on paved road, which goes deep into the mountains and is a combination of nature and adventure. This trip is done in an SUV vehicle, driven by the Kuna people themselves who have all the experience and know the road very well. Once at the Cartí public dock, you will take a 30-minute boat ride to Wailidup Island. The pristine San Blas Archipelago includes picture-perfect tropical islands with white sand and coconut trees. Depending on whom you ask, the number of islands varies between 365 and 380, many of them with no people living on them. Less than 60 islands are inhabited by an Indian tribe, the Kuna. The Kuna is one of the best-preserved of all the indigenous cultures of the Americas. The Kuna people are so determined to protect their heritage that they have maintained their autonomy since the Spanish first arrived over 500 years ago. The San Blas province has its government – the indigenous independent congress – and each island is run by a chief. Tourism is limited to only a few of the islands. But with its turquoise waters, the white sand beaches dotted with palm trees, and thatched-roof Kuna villages, the San Blas Archipelago is worth a visit. Most of the hotels are owned and operated by the Kuna tribe and most offers rustic rooms built out of bamboo and board. Please note that on the San Blas Islands there are no ATMs and credit cards will not be accepted. Make sure to bring enough cash to pay for your drinks and additional expenses. Upon arrival at San Blas Island Lodge, lunch will be given at your preferred lodge. Spend the rest of the day at leisure snorkeling, swimming, and relaxing at your lodge. Three daily meals, as well as two daily tours to nearby islands and Kuna villages, are included in your package. Please coordinate these activities directly at the lodge.
